If you have a question about our school, our FAQ page is the best place to find the answer. We've provided answers to the questions we are asked most frequently. If you don't find what you need here, we're always happy to answer your questions personally. Just give us a call!
You may report your child absent by calling the attendance hotline before 9:00 a.m. at (203) 894.5725, option 4.
Our regular school hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. This year’s schedule begins with HR/check-in from 8:00 a.m. to 8:10 a.m. Student drop-off is no earlier than 7:45 a.m. Our school office opens at 7:30 a.m. and closes at 4:00 p.m. On early release days, teachers dismiss their classes at 11:05 a.m. Delayed start days begin at 10:04 a.m.
We do not permit students to use cell phones or mobile devices in undesignated areas. We require parents and students to sign and return a cell phone/electronic device agreement. For questions about cell phone use, please contact us directly.
We adhere to a two-day cycle here at SRMS. The first day of school is Day A, and the following day is Day B. This cycle repeats, which determines which classes students attend each day.
We do not allow our students to wear the following items during the school day:
- Hats, bandanas, caps, or hoods
- Short shorts, mini-skirts, pajamas, boxer shorts, underwear, or spandex as outer clothing
- Clothing with sexual, suggestive, obscene, or otherwise offensive language or images
- Tank tops, tube tops, halter tops, or midriff tops
- Hanging chains, spiked adornments, or shoes with wheels
We will ask students who do not adhere to dress code requirements to contact their parents to bring appropriate clothing to school. Please see our Student Procedures for additional dress guidelines.
SRMS provides full lunch service, sandwiches, and snacks for purchase. You can purchase student lunches online or with cash. Please see our district’s Food Services page for lunch menus. For questions, please call the Food Service Office at (203) 894.5550, ext. 22035.
It is our policy to notify parents immediately if school is canceled or changed for any reason. We ask that parents sign up for the Superintendent’s News Service online. The following radio/television stations will also report school closures:
- WEBE 108 FM
- WEZN 99.9 FM
- WLAD 800 AM/98.3 FM
- WCBS 880 AM
- WFSB TV Channel 3
- WTNH TV Channel 8
- WVIT Channel 30
Since weather conditions may require additional communication, we recommend that parents continue to monitor these news outlets for updates.
All visitors must park in the visitor parking lot, check in at the school office, and wear school issued identification while on campus. We do not permit students from other schools to accompany SRMS students to classes.
Our school nurse administers all prescribed and over the counter medication. We do not allow students to carry medication of any kind on school grounds including but not limited to inhalers, epi-pens, ibuprofen, acetaminophen, prescription medication, etc. Please ensure the health office has the proper medical information and documentation to administer medication to your child. While the nurse coordinates with each student to arrange a medication schedule, it is the responsibility of the student to retrieve his/her medication from the nurse. It is our policy to dispose of all unretrieved medications at the end of the school year.
Our lost and found is in the school office. We ask that students report lost or stolen items immediately. While we do our best to safeguard private property, we do not claim responsibility for lost valuables and personal items.
Your child’s safety is extremely important to us. To help keep everybody safe, we ask that all visitors to our campus follow our security procedures. Visitors must enter the school grounds via the main entrance and show a photo ID. We will provide a temporary photo ID to wear while on our campus, which will expire at the end of the school day. We ask that visitors check out when leaving the school. Thank you for your support of this important security procedure.
Yes, the visitor parking at our school is clearly identified within the school parking lot. We ask all visitors to park only in visitor spaces to avoid a fine or ticket that may result by parking elsewhere.
We ask that all visitors to our school enter only through the main entrance. Only staff members may use their ID badges to enter through other entrances.
In order to ensure the safety of our students, you must provide written permission for your child to walk to or from school. This includes students who may walk to or from Ridgefield High School to meet a sibling. For more information and for the permission form, please see our walker letter.
